There were standouts on both sides of the ball for Texas football in the 23-point victory at home over the USC Trojans on Sep. 15.

The fans of Texas football were treated to one of the best games they’ve seen at home at DKR in a long time with the huge Week 3 victory over the USC Trojans. With a 2-1 start to the 2018 season, the Longhorns actually go into Big 12 play with some hope of contending for a spot in the conference championship game in December.

Texas handled the Trojans through and through on the way to racking up its biggest non-conference win since knocking off the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to start the 2016 season. However, the Horns’ effort here was even more impressive since it handled USC much easier than the top 10 ranked Stanford Cardinal did in Week 2.

The hype train won’t get out of hand for the Horns at least until we know what happens in the Big 12 opener on Sep. 22 against the TCU Horned Frogs. The next three games are a gauntlet for Texas football since it comes against TCU, the Kansas State Wildcats, and Oklahoma Sooners. Big 12 play won’t be so friendly for the next few weeks.

Yet, this does give Texas the chance to capitalize on this momentum and get through some of the toughest Big 12 games at the outset of conference play. Win two of those three games against TCU, Kansas State, and Oklahoma and the Horns are in prime position to finish in the top half of the Big 12 standings this fall.

Here’s a look at the best performers for the Texas Longhorns on both sides of the ball in the massive 37-14 victory over the USC Trojans in the third week of the season.
