No single player was more important to the success of the Horns against USC than sophomore starting quarterback Sam Ehlinger. Even though he completed less than 50 percent of his passes against the Trojans, he did what he needed to do to manage the game enough for Texas to claim the comfortable victory.

In Week 2, it was the standout performance of Ehlinger that carried the Horns all the way to a victory that was way too close for comfort over the Golden Hurricane. He didn’t toss a single interception in that game, which was key to hanging onto the close win. In fact, Ehlinger hasn’t tossed a single pick since he had two against the Maryland Terrapins in the fourth quarter of the season opener.

Overall, Ehlinger finished up with more than 250 total yards for three total touchdowns. Of the more than 250 total yards he racked up, 223 came in the passing game as well as two of the three touchdowns. The other 35 yards came on the ground, including a big second-half rushing touchdown to convert on a long drive.

Ehlinger actually looks to be having a huge 2018 campaign just three games in. He now has eight total touchdowns to just two interceptions. His passing performance has gone up and down each half to start the year, but that’s beside the point. Ehlinger is doing what he needs to do to lead the Horns to victory at home which is the most important factor here.
