Texas Football: Best Longhorns’ performers in win over USC
One of the biggest individual plays of the game for Texas football on the defensive side of the ball came from senior cornerback Kris Boyd. He picked off USC true freshman quarterback J.T. Daniels on a beautiful play to get his first of the season. Last year, Boyd had two interceptions and it only took him three weeks to nab his first of the 2018 campaign.
Boyd also had five total tackles and one pass deflection. This is the type of performance that Texas will need out of its primary cornerback moving forward. He showed that he can come up big against a tremendously talented receiving corps in that of the Trojans to help this Texas defense hold strong.
There’s a lot to be excited about moving forward for this Texas defensive backfield. Boyd’s standout performance in Week 3 was one of just a number of reasons why this secondary showed it had a bright outlook for the rest of the season. The performances of true freshman cornerback Anthony Cook and safeties Caden Sterns and B.J. Foster were also huge.
On the season now, Boyd has racked up one interception, four pass deflections, and 16 total tackles. This was really the first time this season that he was big in all facets of the game for the Horns. He played a big role in shutting down the run game of the Trojans too in the second half on the way to a massive defensive showing for Texas football.
