One of the forgotten players for Texas football to start this season when he was expected to play a bigger role is junior linebacker Jeffrey McCulloch. If Texas decides to still go with three linebackers in this game and not switch to a 4-2-5 look on the defensive side of the ball, McCulloch should be a starter.

With the injury to who was the starting b-linebacker for the Horns in junior Malcolm Roach, someone is going to have to step in and fill that void. While Roach got off to a slow start this year, his talent and pass rushing ability will be tough to replace. The closest thing that Texas should have to fill his shoes that is available right now is McCulloch.

Injury and transfer hampered the Texas linebacking corps since fall camp between the current losses of senior Edwin Freeman, sophomore Demarco Boyd, freshman DeMarvion Overshown, and Roach. Texas just cannot have another costly injury to any of its key linebackers which includes McCulloch.

So far this season, McCulloch did get some playing time through the first three games. That amounted to just nine total tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass deflection. Some Texas football fans might forget the raw talent that McCulloch brings to the table as a former highly-touted recruit, but he could show out big time with a big opportunity against TCU.
