The interceptions came few and far between for the Horns this fall compared to last. It’s been mentioned over and over again since he departed the Forty Acres one year early, but the loss of safety DeShon Elliott to the NFL played a large role in that occurring. That loss already thrust true freshman safety Caden Sterns into a starting gig.

However, something needed to give for the Texas secondary to make up for that loss of Elliott among others. Elliott racked up six interceptions last season, and Texas is only halfway to reaching that mark as a team this year. Altogether, Texas had 20 interceptions and has just three up to this point. And, two of those came from true freshman.

One corner that is an obvious candidate to step up and make a bigger impact is senior cornerback Davante Davis. With three career interceptions, a very physical style and the physical tools needed to succeed in the defensive backfield, we know Davis can be a ball hawk that nabs at least two picks in his final season in Austin.

Davis is going to match up with either senior wide receiver Jaelan Austin or sophomore Jalen Reagor. Both Austin and Reagor are incredibly quick and will test his speed if TCU tries to stretch this Texas secondary. We saw last week that TCU can break a game open in one play on offense, and Davis will be key in shutting that factor down come this weekend.
