The Texas receiving corps got off to a solid start this year and proved why there was so much anticipation around what this position group could do. Texas has so much depth at wide receiver that it makes preparing for the matchup much more difficult. Ehlinger stepping up and finding more of his weapons in the passing game helped out the cause of his wide receivers too.

This all starts with the fact that the Horns have five or six wide receivers that are proving to be threats this year. That stretches from the junior standouts including Collin Johnson and Lil’Jordan Humphrey and goes all the way down to the emerging true freshman Josh Moore. Against USC, Moore had a big catch that was his first career receiving touchdown.

Potentially the most important wide receiver to step up now for Texas football, and for the rest of the season, is Johnson. He has the purest talent and physical tools as a wide receiver but seems to be up and down on a week by week basis. Even though Humphrey is leading the Horns in receiving yards, with 275, Johnson can start playing catch up with a big Week 4.
