True freshman standout running back Keaontay Ingram is questionable with a lingering knee injury this weekend, so the starting job might still be solely in the hands of senior Tre Watson. That’s not a bad thing for the Horns considering what he and sophomore Daniel Young were able to do on the ground last week.

The workload on the ground was pretty even spread to start the season, and that is also with good reason. Ingram had a strong start to the season until he was hit with the knee injury against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, and Young is doing good too. This could actually be the first game with Texas where Watson racks up a rushing touchdown.

Watson is, by far, leading Texas in rushing yards and carries. And, he has more than 200 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown through three games. Young comes up behind him among the running backs with 125 yards and no touchdowns. Yet, Young is averaging more than five yards per carry this year and Watson is over four yards per carry.

The ground game hasn’t been spectacular by any stretch of the mind for the Horns. It is doing something that it didn’t do in most games last season, actually getting the job done to win games. Ehlinger was most of the running game last year despite starting less than half of the games. The workload is now split between three capable rushers that are producing nicely.
