Texas Football: How many points will the Longhorns need to beat TCU?
Verdict on point total for the Longhorns
Texas football enters this game as an underdog by a field goal to the Horned Frogs. The over/under for this game is set at just 49 points. But, Texas-TCU tends to not produce the most high-scoring affairs compared to the rest of the Big 12. The same will likely be said for this meeting between the two squads.
The most points that Texas has managed in the past four years against the Frogs came back in 2014 with only 10. Texas football is becoming way too accustomed to getting handled by TCU since the Frogs joined the Big 12 back in 2012. Last year’s matchup was actually pretty close by the recent standards of this contest.
TCU is averaging roughly 42 points per game this season. Yet, two of TCU’s three games this season came against an FCS program in Southern and the SMU Mustangs who are having a rough year with no wins up to this point. TCU played pretty well against the stout defense of the Ohio State Buckeyes last week but put up only 28 points.
A realistic point total for the Frogs this week would be in the low 30s. With the way that Orlando held the Frogs last season and the trends from them to start this season, between 31-34 points could be the outcome. If Texas can hold the Frogs out of the 30s and have a similar outing points-wise as last week, this game could fall in favor of the home team.
