Texas Football: Kirk Herbtreit the only College Gameday host not to pick the Longhorns
Outlook for Texas vs. TCU
In all reality, Texas should be able to make this game close but it’s going to be an uphill battle. Ehlinger never had a start against the Frogs, since it was Buechele that got that nod last year. TCU also has a ton of speed and explosive athletes that showed the ability to exploit the weaknesses of the Horns in recent years.
Texas does hold a massive edge in this series with TCU to the tune of 62 wins and only 25 losses. Although, Mack Brown’s final year with Texas football was the last time that the Horns were able to emerge victorious in this series. That was also the worst year for Patterson since TCU joined the Big 12 back in 2012.
The closest that Texas came to knocking off TCU in the last four seasons was actually that 24-7 defeat last year. Charlie Strong never came close to beating the Frogs, with most of the domination in this series coming while he was the head coach. Yet, Herman might make adjustments to prepare for this game better than Strong did.
Seeing how Texas responds to the massive 37-14 home victory over USC in Week 3 is one of the most interesting storylines to watch here. If Herman and the Horns can capitalize on this significant momentum from knocking off a top-25 USC squad, then they could manage to pull the upset against TCU.
