The all-awaited matchup for Texas football is nearing kick-off, with a win possibly on the horizon, against the Oklahoma Sooners.

The path to becoming a top 10 ranked team for Texas football continues with knocking off the No. 7 Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Shootout on Oct. 6. At this point, the Longhorns do have a top 25 ranking entering the Red River Shootout, at No. 19. The weird part for the Horns was that the ranking slipped down one spot from what it was previously in Week 5.

Texas football held a No. 18 ranking after knocking off two top 25 teams in consecutive weeks, but dropped one after beating Kansas State. Although the wins over the USC Trojans and TCU Horned Frogs don’t look as good now as they did at the time, both those teams are still quality.

USC has won two straight since losing to the Horns over the Washington State Cougars and Arizona Wildcats. The only two losses for USC came against top 20 teams in the Horns and the Stanford Cardinal.

And, TCU took care of business against the Iowa State Cyclones in Week 5. Both of those wins could wind up proving very valuable down the road if TCU and USC keep winning. Texas needs to head down that same path, though.

Red River could prove to be one of the most pivotal matchups to determine the Big 12 Champion this year, or at least who participates in the Big 12 Championship Game at the end of the regular season.

Here’s a look at what the Texas Longhorns can do against the Oklahoma Sooners in Red River in Week 6, and what the road map to victory looks like.
