What Texas has done

The slip up in the season opener against the Maryland Terrapins for the second straight year is proving more costly than originally anticipated. Maryland is looking like a pretty dangerous team in the Big 10, but that doesn’t excuse this five-point loss that the Horns has in Landover, MD, on Sep. 1.

If not for that loss to Maryland, Texas would likely be ranked in the top 10 in the nation right now. Overlooking that is tough for the poll voters this early on in the year. Texas has some big wins in the last three weeks, but not a top-10 win yet.

Even the win over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane was somewhat questionable for the Horns to say the least. The signs of progress the offense showed in that 28-21 win over the Golden Hurricane is also proving to be one of the most beneficial parts of the growth of that side of the ball during the off-season.

Texas does have some considerable momentum coming into this game. This team knocked off Kansas State in the Little Apple for the first time since 2002 last week. And, the defense is just as good, if not better, than it was last year under defensive coordinator Todd Orlando. Things are looking up for this program right now.
