What Texas needs to do

To build off the point of exploiting the defense of the Sooners, this would be the easiest path to the Horns emerging victorious. Texas has knocked off the Sooners a few times in the past five tries when considered pretty vast underdogs. That included the 2013 and 2015 campaigns under both Charlie Strong and Mack Brown.

However, last year was really a heartbreaker for the Horns, with a second half comeback led by quarterback Sam Ehlinger falling short thanks to the efforts of former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield. Oklahoma made the final drive of the game count and sealed the win over the Horns last year.

Granted, these are much different Texas and Oklahoma squads this fall which makes for a different dynamic this time around. Texas will thrive off of a strong ground game and the continued mistake-free play of Ehlinger. That puts a lot of responsibility in the lap of the sophomore Ehlinger and true freshman running back Keaontay Ingram.

Obviously, the defense needs to continue coming up large. True freshman safety Caden Sterns and senior linebacker Gary Johnson were the stewards for the success on this side of the ball for the Horns this season. Stopping Murray and the Sooners is no easy task, but the defense for Texas football definitely has the team speed to contain this explosive offense in Week 6.
