Texas Football: Road map to beating the Sooners
Most important players for each team
In order to beat the Sooners, the responsibility is going to fall on the senior leadership for the Horns. Players like Ehlinger, Sterns, Ingram, etc. are some young guys that helped the Horns in some of the early season games, and now it’s time for the more experienced players to take center stage.
One player that came through in a big way for the Horns in Week 5 was senior defensive end Breckyn Hager. Against Kansas State, Hager came up with his best performance of the season when it mattered most. He came up with one sack, one tackle for loss, and four total tackles. That was his first sack of the season and came at a key point in the game.
A few other players that will be important for the Horns beyond the obvious names already mentioned are wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey, defensive end Charles Omenihu, and cornerback Kris Boyd. Most of the players that need to step up are the ones that have played in numerous Red River games and even saw this team beat the Sooners back in 2015. Boyd and Omenihu saw just that.
For Oklahoma, linebacker Kenneth Murray is coming up huge right now and will continue to be key for this team. Kyler is also going to be important, coming off his record setting seven touchdown performance in the blowout win over the Baylor Bears last week. It should also be another running back by committee approach for the Sooners this week.
