Texas Football: Road map to beating the Sooners
Ultimate path to victory for Texas
Oklahoma is slightly more than a one touchdown favorite over the Horns as of Oct. 4. The line for the game has not fluctuated much, similar to the over/under. At this time, the over/under is set at 61.5 points. That says that Vegas is expecting a higher scoring game than normal for Texas football this year.
However, the offense was headed in a nice direction against USC and TCU by posting 68 points against talented defenses in those two games. No one really expects Ehlinger to lead the highest scoring offense in the Big 12, but he is more effective this year than he was last. That will pay dividends against the Sooners.
This game is going to be close either way, and the answer to the Horns solving the Sooners seems to be easy to come up with. Avoiding the costly mistakes in clutch time would’ve helped Texas win a few more games last season, and contributed to where the team is at now. This point will need to be present for Texas in this game, though.
Above all else, Texas is going to have to rely on its defense but not put too much pressure on it. That’s something Texas did to a fault against Kansas State, but can’t do against the Sooners and come away with a win. Orlando’s defense is nearly assured to do its job, but the offensive production has come and gone. Kyler Murray and the Sooners will pull away early if the Horns have difficulties scoring like they did in the second half against Kansas State last week.
