5. Sam Ehlinger is making more noise than anyone could’ve expected

A ton of pressure was on the shoulders of sophomore quarterback Sam Ehlinger to make things happen against the inept Oklahoma defense. However, there’s nothing new for Ehlinger in terms of shouldering the load for the Horns. Ehlinger delivered big time for the Horns, on his way to five total touchdowns.

He could’ve even racked up six total touchdowns if not for the jump pass touchdown tossed by junior wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey that was the first score of the game for the Horns. Yet, there was also nothing wrong with Herman and offensive coordinator Tim Beck drawing up a play that helped the Horns score so quickly.

The Heisman hype train could even get going for Ehlinger soon enough if he keeps playing the way he did against the Sooners. All in all, Ehlinger posted nearly 400 total yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions. Texas didn’t even have any turnovers which is a sign of massive progress from where Ehlinger was as a true freshman.

After the win over Oklahoma, Ehlinger has 17 total touchdowns and just two interceptions. And, those two interceptions came in the fourth quarter of the loss to the Maryland Terrapins in the season opener. The positive direction that Ehlinger is moving right now means that this Texas offense could continue to have a really big year.
