3. Cameron Dicker is finding his way

The roller coaster ride to start the regular season for Cameron Dicker is largely thanks to the fact that he’s just a true freshman. Texas has true freshmen all over the special teams between “Dicker the kicker”, freshman punter Ryan Bujcevski, and versatile returner D’shawn Jamison (who had his first career punt return for a touchdown last week against Kansas State).

On the day, Dicker was perfect on all six of his extra point attempts and hit every one of his field goal attempts too. That included the game-winner for the Horns, which made “Dicker the kicker” a rising legend across the state of Texas. His two biggest games yet came against Oklahoma and TCU.

Red River was not as friendly to Bujcevski as it was for Dicker. Bujcevski is still struggling to get his feet under him to adjusting to punting at the college level. He averaged less than 40 yards per punt, which is becoming a fairly regular stat line for him in that regard. Chances are he will improve given the way his cousin progressed over the past few years.

The special teams are moving in the right direction for the Horns. If Dicker can stay consistent from here on out, it’ll be a huge boost for Texas in close games like this one. It was easy to tell that Red River was going to come down to the wire this year, and Texas was lucky that its true freshman kicker came through in clutch time.
