2. B.J. Foster’s maturity is close to that of Caden Sterns

How long would it take for the pair of true freshman safeties in B.J. Foster and Caden Sterns to get accustomed to this defense enough to be consistent starters? That was the question that a lot of fans of the Texas football program had prior to the start of the regular season, and it was answered pretty early on.

Sterns didn’t have his biggest game of his short collegiate career to date, but Foster was clearly one of the leaders in terms of defensive play in this game. Foster was one of the total tackle leaders for the Horns, with six, and he also racked up two tackles for loss and one sack. Only senior defensive end Charles Omenihu had as many tackles for loss as Foster.

Foster was just returning from an injury that held him out in recent weeks, but he returned at or near full strength for the Red River Shootout. He made a big impact and continues to show why him and Sterns are the future of this secondary. Both Sterns and Foster make up a good portion of the team interceptions that the Horns have this season.

The pairing of Foster and Sterns alongside Jones is lethal in terms of raw talent and the nose for the ball for each safety. Jones should still have one more year on campus on the Forty Acres and Sterns and Foster should be around for a while. The future of this Texas secondary is so bright just because of all the talent from Foster and Sterns.
