Nearly a dream season for Texas football is now at the midway point with some of the most difficult games out of the way already.

Now that half of the regular season is over with for Texas football, we can reflect on a pretty tremendous start to what could be a very promising 2018 campaign. Outside of one loss for the Longhorns, in the season opener to the Maryland Terrapins, this season has gone very well with the team currently riding a five-game winning streak.

Texas came into the biggest matchup of the season, in the Red River Shootout against the Oklahoma Sooners, as slight underdogs but did what they needed to get that fifth straight victory of the year. The previous four wins came over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, USC Trojans, TCU Horned Frogs, and Kansas State Wildcats.

That’s quite the impressive laundry list of wins so far for the Horns in a season where the team is just two victories shy of matching the mark from the entirety of the 2017 campaign. Texas racked up seven wins total last season under then first-year head coach Tom Herman.

This did not take long for Herman to get things rolling for the Horns despite the numerous and overwhelming concerns coming about after the loss to Maryland on Labor Day Weekend. The three wins to start conference play were especially impressive, and Texas has three wins overall against ranked opponents this year.

At this point, the Horns are one of two teams remaining undefeated teams in the Big 12 with just three games done for conference play.

Here’s a look at the five thoughts that come about for the Texas Longhorns near the midway point of the 2018 regular season.
