A game that will go down as an instant classic for Texas football and the Oklahoma Sooners in the 2018 Red River Showdown showed us a lot from both teams.

The matchup that saw ESPN’s College Gameday make its way to the Texas State Fair in Dallas, TX, was the confirmation that Texas football is for real. We got some clues as to how good the Longhorns could be after the wins over the likes of the USC Trojans, TCU Horned Frogs, and Kansas State Wildcats. But, that win over the Oklahoma Sooners was the proving factor.

Another great aspect of the 2018 version of the Red River Shootout was the amount of excitement that the game drew throughout. Oklahoma nearly pulled off a 21-point comeback win in the fourth quarter behind star quarterback Kyler Murray. Yet, the Horns were able to hang on despite the best efforts of the biggest rival late in the game.

Texas achieved its first top 10 ranking in the AP Poll since the 2010 season after knocking off the Sooners in Week 6. Now, the Horns turn the attention to facing an in-state conference opponent in the Baylor Bears. Texas gets Baylor at home on the Forty Acres for Week 7, but still has some reflecting to do from the win over Oklahoma and the first half of the regular season in general.

Only the Sooners looked to stand in the way of the Horns making a run at an appearance in the 2018 Big 12 Championship Game. Now, the No. 6 ranked West Virginia Mountaineers appear to be the only team standing in the way of accomplishing that.

Here’s a look at the five overreactions after the 48-45 win for the Texas Longhorns over the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry on Oct. 6.
