1. A Big 12 Title is in sight

It is still pretty early to say that Texas football is a lock for the 2018 Big 12 Championship Game. But if the season ended today (Oct. 8), Texas would be facing the No. 6 ranked West Virginia Mountaineers in the Big 12 Championship Game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. However, we still have a ways to go, and the Horns need to take care of business in the second half of the year.

Texas could be set for either a rematch with the Sooners in the Big 12 Championship Game, or facing against West Virginia two times. The coming weeks for West Virginia will be interesting to follow for Texas football fans since both teams are the only remaining undefeated teams in the conference.

A few other teams that could still be in contention for a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game given strong second halves to the season include the Texas Tech Red Raiders and TCU Horned Frogs. Knocking off Texas Tech is also going to be key given how the Red Raiders have actually looked pretty good to start the year.

The rest of the regular season entails matchups against West Virginia, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Iowa State, and Texas Tech. Since Oklahoma and TCU are already out of the way, the toughest part of the schedule is now over with. It’s about hanging on even for potential contention for a College Football Playoff berth come the end of the regular season.
