Special Teams

The special teams had the biggest roller coaster ride of any group for the Horns this fall. That is to be expected with a true freshman kicker and punter. At least the return game is coming off a positive note for the past few weeks. The highlight of that is the long punt return for a touchdown by true freshman D’shawn Jamison against Kansas State.

Jamison gives this return unit a bright future, as he has the natural knack for finding his way through traffic on kicks and punts. Brandon Jones is also having a nice year when he is actually afforded the opportunity to return punts this season. Jamison should be the main returner moving forward.

The growing pains for the cousin of the former All-American punter from the Horns are apparent at this point. Australian punter Ryan Bujcevski has some flashes, but the punting averages aren’t where he’d like them to be. Texas also had some growing pains with Michael Dickson, so this is to be expected from Bujcevski.

However, the one freshman on special teams that is definitely coming off a high note last week is kicker Cameron Dicker. “Dicker the kicker” has really caught on around the country within the pas few days after his game-winning field goal that he hit against the Sooners last week. Overall Dicker has made seven of his 10 field goal attempts this year.
