Quarterback

There was an expected quarterback battle between Ehlinger and Buechele this year. And, the two other quarterbacks in Casey Thompson and Cameron Rising can now redshirt this year since they likely won’t get on the field anytime soon. Ehlinger has yet to be in an extended situation to where he wasn’t the starting signal caller.

The efficiency and decision making from Ehlinger this year has been nothing short of outstanding. He’s completing around 65 percent of his passes and has 17 total touchdowns with just two interceptions. Barring one quarter of football against the Maryland Terrapins this year and Ehlinger has no picks on the season.

We could see Buechele at some point, especially with Texas hitting an easier portion of its schedule. It’d be interesting to see how Buechele does coming off the bench cold for so long. He has never sat this many games in his career for this long, and he hasn’t even thrown a pass in a game since the Texas Bowl last season.

dark. Next. 3 freshmen who will come up big down the stretch

Obviously, Ehlinger is going to be the most important player for the Horns moving forward. Giving him the starting nod this season and having so much faith in him is one of the best moves Tom Herman made during the off-season. Ehlinger took his play to a whole new level this fall as a true sophomore.
