Another close one for the Horns came in the second game of the Big 12 slate on the road against Kansas State. Historically, Texas football fans know what a road meeting with Kansas State usually entails. Texas had not defeated Kansas State in the Little Apple since the 2002 season. Herman was looking for his second straight victory in this series too.

Very similar to the Tulsa game, Texas got a quick jump on Kansas State and looked as if it would pull away in the second half. However, a quarterback change in the second half from Alex Delton to Skylar Thompson for Kansas State made a huge difference. The offense was rejuvenated in the second half thanks to Thompson.

If not for a punt return for a touchdown from true freshman D’shawn Jamison in this game, it might have swung in a different direction. Jamison helped the Horns walk into halftime with a 19-0 lead. Kansas State outscored Texas 14-0 in the second half and had a few opportunities to take the lead but never capitalized.

A tale of two halves was rounded out with a game-ending drive led by Ehlinger to milk the clock and walk out of Bill Snyder Family Stadium with a 19-14 win. Ehlinger had slightly over 200 passing yards and one touchdown. Most importantly, he managed the game well when the situation called for it.
