Texas Football: Ranking every game for the Longhorns so far in 2018
2. TCU Horned Frogs
Date: Sep. 22
Location: Austin, TX
Result: Win, 31-16
TCU presented a challenge that appeared to be too daunting for the Horns following the loss against Maryland and the narrow win over Tulsa. At the time, TCU was coming off a closely contested showdown against a top five ranked team in the Ohio State Buckeyes at AT&T Stadium in Dallas and was seemingly on the upswing.
That myth was quickly exposed as the Horns also had some momentum coming into this matchup after its dominant 37-14 win over USC the week before. Texas proved to be the greater of the two teams from the get go and made life for sophomore TCU quarterback Shawn Robinson a nightmare all game.
As a team, TCU was forced into four turnovers and Texas didn’t give up the ball once. Shutting down the TCU ground game was also a huge key to success in this win. TCU couldn’t find enough sustained success to make much happen with the Texas defense clamping down more and more as the game went along.
Ehlinger posted one of the best games of his career against TCU with more than 250 passing yards and three total touchdowns without an interception. He held the Horns together and helped the team really close out the Frogs in the second half by outscoring the opponent 21-3. TCU actually carried a small lead into halftime to no avail.
