1. Oklahoma Sooners

Date: Oct. 6

Location: Dallas, TX

Result: Win, 48-45

Could there be any other game at the top of this list? The clear and obvious answer is no since the Red River Showdown was the deciding factor as to where the Horns are in the AP Poll right now. This year’s edition of Red River will go down as an instant classic as one of the best games of the year when it’s all said and done.

Also, any time Texas beats Oklahoma it causes an uproar from the fan base amounting to more excitement than defeating any other team in the nation. The deep receiving corps of Texas was put at the forefront on the national stage and didn’t disappoint. Junior wide receivers Collin Johnson and Lil’Jordan Humphrey were superior to anything the Oklahoma secondary could send their way.

Texas just outscored the Sooners at one point, holding a 45-24 lead in the second half. That fell apart quickly as time went along in the second half with Oklahoma then tying the game at 45. Yet, you can never rule out an offense led by head coach Lincoln Riley and quarterbacked by Kyler Murray. Ehlinger and Murray would have a duel of the century with each quarterback racking up five total touchdowns going each way.

The part of this game that cost the Sooners was the three turnovers forced by the Horns. Although, the third turnover came on the final play of the game where Oklahoma was just trying to keep the ball alive by sending laterals all over the field. What Texas did to hold off Oklahoma’s spirited run at winning in the fourth quarter was pretty special.
