5. Texas will not be over-matched by anyone

The unusual occurrence that the biggest wins for the Horns this fall came against some of the best competition does highlight the past of Tom Herman’s teams. Herman is playing up and down to his competition, but is at least doing so in a manner where Texas has won all but one game this season.

Two of the best wins this season so far came over the USC Trojans (by the final score of 37-14) and the TCU Horned Frogs (by the final score of 31-16) in which both opponents were ranked in the top 25 at the time. TCU fell off a bit since losing to the Horns in the Big 12 opener, including its defeat at the hands of the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Week 7.

On the other hand, the Horns played down to the competition in games against the Kansas State Wildcats, Baylor Bears, and Tulsa Golden Hurricane saw this team cut it way too close for comfort. The good news in this regard is Texas knows where it needs to improve since the second half was a major letdown on all three occasions.

Finish out those games, and the Horns are one of the most dominant teams not only in the Big 12, but in the entire country in 2018. Texas turned things around immediately after the loss to Maryland and the win over Tulsa. That included the surprising dominant wins over TCU and USC in what appeared to be a gauntlet for the Horns.
