Texas gave some younger players from this extremely talented 2018 freshman class some playing time earlier in the season due to a wave of key injuries. Fall camp was not too friendly to the Horns at one point during the off-season. However, one true freshman that did get the opportunity to make an impact earlier in the year was Anthony Cook.

Really the only stats that Cook was able to post this season came in the 31-16 win over TCU in the Big 12 opener. Cook was forced into action due to an injury to senior cornerback Davante Davis. Cook is going to make some freshman mistakes if he gets more playing time, but that is to be expected.

It seems as if the only freshman cornerback that has the chance to get any additional playing time this year is Cook. Fellow freshman cornerback Jalen Green is likely to be completely held out until next season. The only other viable option at this point for the Horns at cornerback is redshirt freshman Kobe Boyce.

Since both Davis and fellow senior cornerback Kris Boyd are going to be departed from the Forty Acres next year, having the next wave of talent ready to go at the position is key. Herman and Orlando could have the likes of Green and Cook ready to go by next year if both corners are forced into starting positions in their second year on campus.
