Texas Football: 5 players who should get more playing time after bye week
Much like a lot of the younger and more talented players on this list, true freshman wide receiver Brennan Eagles was held out of much of the regular season action in 2018 due to injury. But, Eagles looks to be back at or near full health now as he was at least lined up for a few snaps in last week’s matchup with Baylor.
Although, the only career catch thus far for Eagles came in the Week 2 win over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, that went for 35 yards. Eagles did get some targets since but nothing came of it. You can tell that the coaching staff is trying to work him into the mix, just to no avail yet. But, give it time with him.
Eagles is a talent similar to that of junior wide receiver Collin Johnson in which his development might take some patience. The raw talent for this wide receiver, though, is too great to ignore for the Horns and the offense should get him involved as quickly as possible. The size and strength are his two greatest assets right now.
Texas is very likely to lose Johnson for the 2019 NFL Draft which will leave a huge gap in this receiving corps. In the worst case scenario, Texas football also loses junior wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey (who also has a draft stock on the rise for the 2019 NFL Draft). Losing those two would mean that Eagles could be a primary target for Texas in the passing game next year.
