Texas Football: 5 best wins under Tom Herman so far for Longhorns
Although it took a little while, Texas football got off to a bang in 2018 after losing to Maryland with a revamped effort under head coach Tom Herman.
With Texas football officially 20 games into the era under the direction of second-year head coach Tom Herman, things are going pretty well now. The official record for the Longhorns now under Herman is set at 13-7 heading into the first bye week of the 2018 campaign. Last year’s record for Herman rounded out at 7-6 (5-4 Big 12).
Last season was one of the most successful seasons for the Texas football program in the past four years. Herman’s first year on the Forty Acres led to a better result than Charlie Strong had in any of his four years previous. Strong never managed to snag a postseason win in his time on the Forty Acres and Herman at least did it in his first season at the helm.
Texas is just one win away this season from matching its entire total a season ago, including the bowl victory. With five games remaining during the regular season, and potentially two after, that should be a rather easy and quick accomplishment for the Horns. Those two extra could be the bowl game (Texas is already bowl eligible) and the Big 12 Championship Game.
Herman definitely already grabbed some marquee wins for his resume and landed the Horns with a top 10 ranking in the nation for two weeks in a row now. The only time that Strong came close to touching that mark was in an eventual fluke of a season and ranking after knocking off the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at home in 2016.
Here’s a look at the ranking of the five best wins for Tom Herman in his time with the Texas Longhorns.
