4. Kansas State Wildcats

Date: Sep. 29, 2018

Location: Bill Snyder Family Stadium, Manhattan, KS

Result: 19-14

This was actually one of the worst wins on paper for the Horns this season. Nothing about this win, especially in the second half, was too pretty. Texas was looking to easily take care of business against a down Kansas State Wildcats team this year coming off two massive victories from the previous two weeks.

However, as a lot of people felt would transpire on the field in Manhattan on Sep. 29, the Horns had trouble sealing the deal against Kansas State. Texas truly made things entertaining in this game, by allowing Kansas State to get things going on the ground in the second half behind quarterback Skylar Thompson and running back Alex Barnes.

Ultimately, beating Kansas State on its home turf for the first time since the 2002 campaign was the reason why this game is on this list in the first place. Texas did beat Kansas State last season, but beating them on the road is where the real challenge lied. Whether it was the 19-14 win, or a 42-14 win, it was making it out of the Little Apple with a win that was the biggest accomplishment.

The main reason why Texas was able to hang onto this lead in the end was the smart game management of sophomore quarterback Sam Ehlinger. Both Ehlinger and Tom Herman are now 2-0 against Kansas State in two tries. With how far Kansas State started to fall this year, this could be a winning streak that continues for a few years further for the Horns.
