3. Mizzou Tigers (Texas Bowl)

Date: Dec. 27, 2017

Location: NRG Stadium, Houston, TX

Result: 33-14

The habit of holding current and former Big 12 teams to a score under 20 points actually started for Herman and the Horns last season. Given the situation at the time, there was no better way to finish out the 2017 campaign than with a win over a former conference foe in dominant fashion with some key players missing.

This is the only game from the 2017 campaign on this list, and it was a great way to cap off Tom Herman’s first year on the Forty Acres. Some key players such as the All-American junior safety DeShon Elliott and standout cornerback Holton Hill sat out this game likely in preparation for the upcoming NFL Draft.

The Texas Bowl was the coming out party for then true freshman running back Daniel Young. Unfortunately, it was also the latest big performance for Young up to this point. Young faded out of the running back rotation after the win over Kansas State in Week 4 of the 2018 season. He did rack up more than 100 total yards and one touchdown in this outing, though.

Another impressive aspect of this game for the Horns was the way the defense held its own against star Mizzou quarterback Drew Lock. The Mizzou quarterback had a record-breaking season in the SEC last year (44 total passing touchdowns on the year), but was held to just one touchdown pass and one interception against the Horns.
