Texas Football: 5 best wins under Tom Herman so far for Longhorns
2. TCU Horned Frogs
Date: Sep. 22, 2018
Location: Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, Austin, TX
Result: 31-16
It would be nice if the Horns had caught the TCU Horned Frogs at a better time for the program to earn a thorough victory. However, TCU could still wind up with a good result for the 2018 campaign. Coming off a weeknight loss to the Texas Tech Red Raiders is not the way to accomplish that, though.
Texas was so accustomed to getting blown out by the Horned Frogs that this game seemed to be another round possibly. The win over USC the previous week gave the Horns some hope that this game would be different on the Forty Acres than it had the previous four tries. Those four losses came by a margin of way over 100 points too.
However, even though TCU looked good coming off its slight loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes the week before, Texas took complete control by the third quarter and ran away with a 15-point victory. Junior wide receivers Collin Johnson and Lil’Jordan Humphrey were pivotal in this win for Texas football since they combined for more than 200 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The turnover margin was another deciding factor for the Horns in this win over TCU. Texas held a 4-0 edge in the turnover battle, including three interceptions. The value of the improved secondary was put on full display in this win. It also got a new winning streak started for the Horns in the Big 12 that now stands at four straight victories.
