Texas Football: 3 reasons why Sam Ehlinger could soon be the Big 12’s best QB
The Heisman favorite out of the Big 12 in 2019 could easily be recognized on the Forty Acres in Texas football’s Sam Ehlinger.
The amount of quarterback turnover in the Big 12 following the 2017 campaign was absolutely staggering. It left the conference with a ton of question marks at the position for nearly all of the 10 member teams. Shockingly, the turnover left Texas football with one of the more stable quarterback situations in the Big 12.
Sophomore signal caller Sam Ehlinger battled junior Shane Buechele from the start of spring practice all the way until a few weeks out from the start of the regular season, in fall camp. Ehlinger won over the coaching staff, namely head Texas football coach Tom Herman, in time to prepare for the Maryland Terrapins in Week 1 as the known starter.
However, that season opener didn’t go as planned for Ehlinger and the Longhorns as it is still the only loss for this team to date. Ehlinger played much better since then, though, leading the Horns to a top-10 ranking and a winning streak currently sitting at six straight.
An injury to Ehlinger in the form of a shoulder sprain in the most recent with for the Horns, over the Baylor Bears at home, could make him miss his first start of the season. It was announced on Oct. 20 that Ehlinger is on schedule for his rehab and recovery and still could be ready for the next matchup ahead against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Here’s a look at the three reasons why the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns, Sam Ehlinger, could soon be the best at his position in the Big 12.
