2. Lack of quality Big 12 quarterbacks right now

How the Big 12 plays out this fall is going to be largely dependent on quarterback play, as always. However, there’s not a list of superstar quarterbacks in the Big 12 as gaudy as there was in recent years. The quarterbacks at the top like the Big 12 had last year like Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph and Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield are now in the NFL.

Grier is the only quarterback in the Big 12 that’s established on that level that Mayfield and Rudolph were last season that could make an appearance in the Big 12 Championship Game. Ehlinger and the Horns do control their own destiny now on the way to that conference title game at the beginning of December.

However, the Sooners are also in position to do the same following some impressive wins, including in Week 8 over the TCU Horned Frogs. Ehlinger already posted one massive performance against the Sooners this fall and might have the opportunity to do it again in the same season if all plays out as expected.

Yet, the fall of teams like TCU, Oklahoma State, and the Kansas State Wildcats fully displays the lack of quarterback depth with some teams that are usually very solid year in and year out. Kansas State can’t get much going with Skylar Thompson. That is the same story as Oklahoma State with Taylor Cornelius and TCU with Shawn Robinson.
