1. Rapid progression of Sam Ehlinger should continue

The ultimate factor that plays into Ehlinger’s advantage when comparing him to the rest of the competition under center in the Big 12 is the development he had during the off-season. In his first full off-season of work and progression after his first year on the Forty Acres paid dividends for this entire offense.

A start to the season that saw him toss as many touchdowns through six games as he had all throughout his true freshman campaign is building to something special. He also has six rushing touchdowns to lead Texas football this season, despite the general improvement of the ground game in 2018.

His efficiency with the ball in his hands and during game-winning or game-sealing drives is the most significant portion of the progression in his game. Ehlinger had the game in his hands numerous times this season, and Texas was able to claim victories in all but one, which was the unfortunate defeat at the hands of Maryland.

The versatile threat that Ehlinger offers to beat opposing defenses in two or three facets helped take this Texas offense to a new level in 2018. He’s getting more time in the pocket to go through his reads, but the coaching staff is still allowing him to be a bowling ball up the middle and gain yards in chunks with his legs.
