Texas Football: 5 reasons the Longhorns can blowout Oklahoma State
4. Shane Buechele and Sam Ehlinger are both more productive than Taylor Cornelius
The quarterback situation for Oklahoma State is constantly scrutinized because of Mike Gundy’s lack of willingness to let anyone outside of senior Taylor Cornelius to spearhead the offense. In Oklahoma State’s loss to the Kansas State Wildcats, Cornelius didn’t toss a single touchdown and had two interceptions.
Texas is already taking advantage of the potential to win the turnover battle week in and week out. If the Horns can replicate what was done in the Big 12 opener against the TCU Horned Frogs here against Oklahoma State, it’s going to be a long day for the home team in Stillwater. Watch out for a big day from the pair of safeties in junior Brandon Jones and true freshman Caden Sterns.
Facing Cornelius and the Pokes is going to be either Buechele or Ehlinger. If Ehlinger’s shoulder doesn’t heal up properly, it will be Buechele taking the field on the opening drive for Texas football. Look out for Tom Herman to give true freshman quarterback Cameron Rising a chance if things don’t pan out with Buechele under center.
The point is that whoever lines up under center for the Horns should be able to completely outclass Cornelius and this sputtering Oklahoma State offense. Ehlinger and Buechele should both be able to outscore the Pokes without too much trouble given the way each offense performed of late.
