Texas Football: Road map to beating Oklahoma State for Longhorns
Let the secondary do its thing
We’ll build the point here off of putting the game in the hands of Cornelius for Oklahoma State. Texas football thrives the most when it wins the turnover battle. Most games this fall saw the Horns win the turnover battle against its respective opponent. The wins over the TCU Horned Frogs, USC Trojans, and Oklahoma Sooners were prime examples of the good that can do.
So much attention will be paid to true freshman safety Caden Sterns in this game because of his raw talent and four interceptions on the season already. That could let junior safety Brandon Jones slip free and nab his third interception of the season. Jones came up big before with his key interception in the Red River win over Oklahoma.
Jones could wreak havoc against another Oklahoma school here with a key pick from the Pokes. As the season went along, Cornelius also became more and more prone to tossing interceptions. With how physical the corners for the Horns can be too, the Oklahoma State wide receivers could have a difficult matchup on their hands.
Oklahoma State boasts one of the better receiving corps in the Big 12. Texas does have the secondary and front seven pressure to offset that talent from the Oklahoma State wideouts, though. Senior cornerback Davante Davis and nickelback P.J. Locke III will be key so they don’t get left out and let Oklahoma State find a weak spot in the defensive backfield.
