4. Kris Boyd is not NFL ready

With some better play in recent weeks, Texas football fans and NFL Draft pundits got higher and higher on the stock of Boyd of late. That might come crashing down after this performance he posted against a sophomore receiver that was able to completely light him up all game. The impact he was hoping to make from the second quarter and on didn’t happen.

Boyd was stuck in a difficult situation without a doubt, but he couldn’t have come up with a more lame showing at times. Between getting embarrassed by the Oklahoma State receivers at times and just getting lost in coverage, Boyd didn’t look like a senior that was improving his game of late. Neither did some of his defensive teammates, though.

Whether it was just getting a bit rusty between the bye week and sitting out the first quarter, or a flat showing from him, Boyd has a lot of work to do. He potentially still has six games to show what he can do to NFL scouts for the rest of his senior season. We have also seen this type of inconsistency from Boyd on a fairly regular basis.

The straight up stat line for Boyd in this game doesn’t really do justice to how bad he was at times. Boyd did cap things off with one pass breakup, 0.5 tackles for loss, and four total tackles. He needs to show more before one of the best and deepest receiving corps in the nation makes its way to the Forty Acres for Week 10 in West Virginia.
