2. Sam Ehlinger needs a lot more help

On the offensive side of the ball, most of the bright spots were from the younger players . Sophomore quarterback Sam Ehlinger played much better than his stat line would indicate. Ingram was also big. A combined less than three years of experience makes up for two of the best offensive players against the Pokes here.

Ehlinger finished the game with 283 passing yards and four total touchdowns. Completing just over half of his passing attempts was little insight into how well he actually played with an extreme lack of support. The fact that he didn’t turn the ball over with such a good performance from the Oklahoma State defense is a statement to his game.

The offensive line didn’t play as good as it has for the rest of the season. Ehlinger was under pressure early and often and the line didn’t get much of a push for the rushing attack. Watson, Ehlinger, and Ingram were swarmed most times they attempted to run the ball, especially up the middle.

Any time that Ehlinger is the catalyst for Texas football in both the passing game and on the ground, it looks to be a rough game for this team all-around. Ehlinger didn’t get the spark from the receiving corps that he’s used to having either. That was partly due to the Oklahoma State secondary stepping up and playing its best game of the season so far.
