1. Spat with Oklahoma State and elimination from CFP contention

We’ll move on to the second part of the reason why the Oklahoma State game went completely wrong for Texas football. Herman and Gundy both left their sidelines at the very end of the game when a fight nearly broke out on the field when the Pokes were lining up in the victory formation to run out the clock and seal the win.

Senior Texas defensive end Breckyn Hager tried to pick a fight with Oklahoma State wide receiver Tyron Johnson on the last play of the game which made things go from bad to worse. That led to the benches clearing behind each head coach and things getting very heated when the clock showed zeroes.

Both press conferences after the game from each head coach were rather entertaining. But, it’s almost impossible to look past this loss for the Horns because of the long-term impact. The way the game ended with the fireworks between Hager and Johnson was also not the way this should’ve been capped.

The impact that this loss had on the Horns was the fading of the shot at a spot in the College Football Playoff, a top 10 ranking, and the spot at the top of the Big 12 standings. Texas is still tied with West Virginia and Oklahoma with one loss in the Big 12. But, Texas likely can’t lose another game if it wants to play in the Big 12 Championship Game this year.
