Texas Football: 10 things that went wrong for the Longhorns so far in 2018
6. Downfall of TCU and USC
The actual games themselves against the USC Trojans and TCU Horned Frogs weren’t the unfortunate part of this part of the list for the Horns. Texas football pretty much handled both the Trojans and Horned Frogs to the tune of a combined margin of 68-30. The defense and special teams were huge in both games.
And, both TCU and USC were ranked teams at the time and the Texas defense flexed its muscles with impressive outings on both occasions. Even by the considerations now for the offenses of TCU and USC, holding each in check the way the Horns did was hard to pull off. TCU and USC were much healthier and more in rhythm early in the season than now.
The reason why the wins over these two squads is so drastic now is the downfall of each in recent weeks. Injuries to both starting quarterbacks to the Frogs and Trojans brought down each offense, including to sophomore Shawn Robinson and true freshman J.T. Daniels. Robinson and Daniels surely had their issues this fall, but both are promising signal callers.
In the past few weeks, USC has lost to the Arizona State Sun Devils and and the emerging Utah Utes. USC has a very disappointing mark of 4-4 this fall. Meanwhile, TCU just had the most embarrassing loss in recent memory for that program, coming to Kansas on the road. TCU is in danger of missing a bowl game this year.
