Texas Football: 10 things that went wrong for the Longhorns so far in 2018
5. Second half play almost biting Texas against Kansas State
In the wins over the Kansas State Wildcats and Tulsa, Texas football could not get much of anything going in the second half. The win over Tulsa saw the Horns lose in the second half by a 14-point margin. Then, Kansas State beat the Horns by a margin of 14-0 in the second half on the road at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
This is not to say that everything went wrong for the Horns in this 19-14 win over Kansas State in the Little Apple. Head coach Bill Snyder and the Wildcats were anything but easy for the Horns to win on the road against in the last 15 years. Kansas State held a winning streak in Manhattan dating back to 2002 against the Horns.
A switch of quarterbacks at halftime did play a large role in the struggles of Texas in the last two quarters to stop Snyder’s offense. The complete change of pace between Alex Delton and Skylar Thompson got at least something going for the Kansas State offense that was lame in the first half.
This win over Kansas State also came down to the final drive. The efficient game management at the end of the fourth quarter by Ehlinger signaled the maturity he displayed in his sophomore campaign. Both wins over Kansas State and Tulsa might be nonexistent if not for the smart play of Ehlinger in clutch time.
