4. Fourth quarter run by the Sooners

When Texas football carried a comfortable 21-point lead early in the fourth quarter against the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Showdown, it looked as if things could not go anything but its way at the Cotton Bowl. Texas had not knocked off the Sooners since 2015, under Charlie Strong, and this was a much awaited victory for this fan base.

Holding the Heisman contender Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray back behind head coach Lincoln Riley’s offense is very close to impossible. It also looked as if Orlando’s defense was going to be able to hold Murray and the Sooners under 30 points in this game in an absolutely electric outing.

Murray and star Oklahoma wide receiver Marquise Brown started to explode in the fourth quarter against the Horns to the tune of scoring 21 points in a span of just a few minutes. Yet, Murray could not eclipse Ehlinger in this game since he had two costly turnovers that made the difference in the eventual 48-45 victory for Texas.

Like a ton of wins for the Horns this season, beating Oklahoma came way too close for comfort since a significant lead was held at one point in the second half. The near collapse for the Horns was offset by the clutch field goal that will go down in program history for a long time by true freshman kicker Cameron Dicker.
