4. Secondary recovers from poor performance against Oklahoma State

We’ll take this point to build off of possibly slowing down Grier and the West Virginia passing game. It’s hard to think that any Big 12 defensive backfield will be able to slow down Grier and co. Yet, if anyone can do it in this conference it should be a team like the Horns that plays up and down to its competition.

Since West Virginia comes in with that No. 12 ranking in the AP Poll, playing down to the competition shouldn’t be a theme here for Texas football. West Virginia has a ranking three spots higher than what the Horns have at the exit of Week 9. This Texas secondary should be ready for a huge week.

Yet, this group is going to have to respond in a big way after what happened against Oklahoma State in Week 9. The Oklahoma State passing game absolutely picked apart the Texas cornerbacks to the tune of more than 300 yards and three touchdowns. A usually turnover happy Texas defense also had nothing of the sort against the Pokes.

It’s up to the senior corners on this defense and the two standout safeties to come up with some renowned energy in Week 10. No one had a performance to be particularly proud of in the Texas secondary last week, so there has to be some progress across the board. It couldn’t come at a better time than against the Mountaineers.
