Texas Football: 5 problematic players on West Virginia
3. David Sills V, Wide Receiver
Entering the 2018 campaign, West Virginia sported one of the most impressive receiving corps in the nation. Let alone in the Big 12, the Mountaineers have a group of wide receivers that’s filled with NFL-caliber talent that runs about four or five deep. All of these players could potentially give the Horns issues.
Part of that group is the ring-leader of the receiving touchdowns from last season in senior David Sills V. This season won’t live up to what Sills V did last year in racking up 18 touchdown passes. But, he does have nine on the season and still has the chance to get his first career 1,000 receiving yard season.
We can sometimes get so caught up in what Sills V is able to do on intermediate routes and in the red zone that we forget that he doesn’t always get the most receiving yards. Sills V is among the best in the nation again in terms of red zone production out of a wide receiver. That is a scary thing for the Texas football secondary since it played so bad last week at times.
It’s not going to be too important for Texas football to lock down on Sills V on all parts of the field. Yet, once West Virginia hits plus territory the secondary is going to need to step in and make an impact against Sills V. Texas has more than enough talented pieces in the secondary to deal with him, but it won’t be easy.
