1. Will Grier, Quarterback

The players last year that some around the Big 12 worried about developing to full strength actually came to be for the Mountaineers. Nearly every player on this list had some type of breakout 2017 campaign that mounted to this point. West Virginia now has the culmination of the right circumstances to still be in contention for the College Football Playoff.

The biggest reason for that fact is the senior quarterback Will Grier. The numbers that Grier is posting this fall are keeping him in the running for the Heisman Trophy, despite the lame Week 7 performance that saw him lose to the Iowa State Cyclones. Grier has more than 25 total touchdowns this season already.

You can’t fault Grier for doing what he did against Iowa State with the way that team is playing of late. Iowa State now beat West Virginia, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State all within recent weeks on its way to a No. 24 ranking in the Playoff poll. He could also make up for that loss to Iowa State with a big win on the road.

Grier also has to be itching to get Texas football out of the way since he missed most of that game last year. The finger was all kinds of messed up for Grier last season. That made him miss the rest of the matchup with Texas and led him to helping his offense only put up 14 points when it was all said and done.
