Texas Football: How the Longhorns can stop Will Grier
Minimize the David Sills V threat
The towering 6-foot-4 former All-American West Virginia wide receiver David Sills V is having another award-winning caliber season. Sills V is also coming off one of his best individual performances of the season with 139 receiving yards and two touchdowns in last week’s win over the Baylor Bears.
Altogether, Sills V has more than 500 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. In the last four games, he has 14 catches and four touchdowns. Sills V is also liable to go off in the touchdown department on any given week. He has three games with at least two touchdown receptions this fall.
Not too often do we see Sills V have a 100 receiving yard performance this season. There’s so many weapons in the receiving corps for Grier to spread the ball to that Sills V doesn’t get to maximize the stats he might put up on a different offense. He’s still the biggest threat that Grier has to turn to.
Shut off the threat of Sills V, and Texas football is well on its way to severely limiting the potential of this West Virginia offense. He’s usually the primary look for Grier and the best possession receiver he has in the mix. Other wideouts in this offense have their own strengths, but he is the most reliable of the bunch.
