For Texas football to reach the ultimate goal at this point of winning a Big 12 Title for the first time in a nearly a decade, what needs to happen?

So much off-season and preseason hype finally translated for the Texas football program up to this point of the 2018 campaign, for the first time in almost a decade. It is a testament to how fast head Texas football coach Tom Herman turned around this program after coming over from his first coaching job with the Houston Cougars.

Yet, what Herman didn’t get to do this year was compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff. Although, this type of contention for a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game still seems like it’s coming one year ahead of schedule. There’s still some shortcomings that are indicative of Herman’s past as a head coach, though.

Since the Big 12 Championship Game is still a very attainable goal for Texas football, it shouldn’t be lost on this team how big that could be moving forward. The loss of the ability to get into the Playoff field this year means that the ultimate goal should be that conference title.

Entering a huge Week 10 battles that features two top 15 ranked teams in the AP Poll in Texas and the West Virginia Mountaineers, the Big 12 is going to get a major shakeup. Texas and West Virginia are two of only three teams left in the conference that have one loss in Big 12 play.

If Texas pulls out the win in a showdown against West Virginia in Austin, there’s three very winnable games remaining. But, two of those come on the road. You can’t ignore how potent the opposition is when the Horns have to take one the likes of the Iowa State Cyclones at home and the Texas Tech Red Raiders on the road.

Here’s a look at the 10 reasons why the Texas Longhorns will win the Big 12 Title in 2018.
