2. The motivation of revenge

Of the four teams that the Horns have left this year, the only one that it lost to last year was the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Yet, that loss to the Red Raiders might’ve stung more than any other last year. Texas Tech was also possibly the worst team that Texas football lost to among the six it had for Herman’s first year.

The hard part of this is that the Horns get Texas Tech on the road this time around. Jones AT&T Stadium and Lubbock can be a weird place to play. The Oklahoma Sooners could get a first hand taste of that in Week 10 with a night kick off set in Lubbock. That could also be a good indication of how Texas could do on the road after.

There’s only one team in the Big 12 that Herman lost to twice thus far, and that’s Oklahoma State. The chances fall in the favor of the Horns against Texas Tech this year. Texas also holds the vast talent advantage on both sides of the ball over the Red Raiders. All signs point to a good outcome for Texas over Texas Tech.

We can’t really say that the Horns will be getting revenge West Virginia or Iowa State in 2018. Texas beat both of those teams last year, which comes across very surprising with how 2017 ended. But, facing Kansas in Lawrence could actually start a new winning streak there for the Horns.
