8. Balanced offense that can actually put up points

Texas football was an offense that was anemic at times last season. However, Herman and offensive coordinator Tim Beck are reigniting the offense that’s spearheaded by Ehlinger. The play calling looks smoother this year and all the pieces fell into place naturally in just Herman’s second year at the helm.

This fall, the Horns are averaging four yards per carry and posting nearly two touchdowns per game on the ground. The passing game is the big revelation behind Ehlinger and some of these talented Texas wide receivers. There’s multiple ways that the Horns can beat you on offense which is a rather new factor.

You have to respect the threat that Texas presents on the ground and through the air now. This offensive attack is also making it easier for the defense to help the team hang onto leads when Texas actually plays more than one half of football. Putting together two full halves of football is an obvious key for Texas down the stretch.

Even in last week’s loss to Oklahoma State, the Horns had a second that nearly inspired the biggest comeback win of the season. Last year, the Texas football fans might not have the confidence in Ehlinger and the offense to make such a comeback. This could become valuable in the last four games of the regular season with having that negative experience to learn from.
